Serendipitous Encounters

Serendipitous Encounters

There’s a Dutch urban planning concept called Woonerf which means “living street” or “shared street.” Limited to the street in name only, it conceptually covers the overall synergy of an exterior space.

Creating an environment that’s “positively busy” in both feeling and use is an art and one that’s mastered by SITE solutions. They’ve perfected their approach to “programming the middle space,” designing venues that “energize a space…for passersby and serendipitous encounters.” Implemented through special seating (“comfortable, rich materials,” movable pieces for a sense of “ownership” by the user) and an intentionally open space for events which leverage benefits for the surrounding setting. “When things are going on people become a part of it and they’re a draw to the place. We find all the tenants…benefit from a project having a central place where all of this comes alive.”
