Rock Row

Westbrook, ME

Centered around a 400-foot wide, 300-foot deep rock quarry, Rock Row is 110 acres of transformative adaptive re-use combining destination retail, urban living, modern workplaces, hospitality, entertainment, dining, and recreation. The former Blue Rock Quarry site near Portland will be a new, multimodal community comprising 2-million-square foot mixed use village including a temporary amphitheater, 370,000sf of retail space, and a 25,000-square-foot beer hall, a 12 screen Cinemark, indoor/outdoor concert venue, multiple hotels, contemporary office, residential units, and the 26-acre recreational quarry.

Key to its success will be easy access for residents and visitors alike, whether by car, public transit or the 70-mile Portland Trails network.

SITE solutions worked with the Master Architect and Developer in envisioning the initial design, layout and programming of all the streetscapes, plazas, event spaces and trail networks of Rock Row.

Careful attention has been paid to programming and design features that accentuate outdoor accessibility through all four seasons, and to enhancing the quarry asset and cliff faces both as a natural resource, recreational opportunity and canvas for projection/entertainment.

At Rock Row, sustainability, recreation, entertainment and urbanity will all merge in an immersive environment that both celebrates Maine’s past and looks forward to its dynamic future.
